Something Worldly in the Air!

Well the excitement is in the air around the world community. A coming together to celebrate sport, culture and community in the game called soccer/football. Can you feel the vibration in the air? The thunder of the feet and roar of the crowd, the tap of the shoes and the rhythm of the music that sends excitement into your veins. If you are fortunate enough to live in one of the major cities that are hosting games in Canada, Mexico and the US take advantage of the energy, joy and hospitality and share it with your friends and family. If you are at a distance watch and cheer virtually. Your energy will be felt around the world.

In my little studio space I decided to pause some work and create images of the iconic soccer balls from time frames that complimented my Dancing Through Life collection. In both collections the soccer ball and dance I did hours of research understanding about how the ball was constructed, who made it and what the outcome of the final match was. I also did the same research on my Dancing Through Life collection understanding where the dance was created and the impacts that it has had on our societies from culture, fashion and music. To the right is an image of my painting "Music of the Shoes' the story of the folk dance that was once banned in Ireland and brought back in 1930. Now recognized and performed around the world.

To the left is my painting of the heavy cowhide leather ball used in the 1938 final match held in a suburb of Paris, France. The border of this painting represents the heavy solid silver and gold plated Jules Remit Trophy. This match was the last one prior to WWII.

I find both these forms of activity very similar. They bring young and lived people together. No restrictions of status in society to enjoy, have laughter and forget about the negative noise!

If you are in Vancouver I hope you have the chance to visit The Gallery George at 140 East Hastings St. My collections are on display and for sale from June 10th to July 5th, 2026.
